Dear prospective parents,
The expectations of being pregnant will soon be making way for the joys of early parenthood. During these final months of pregnancy, you of course have a lot of preparations to make. After all, you want the best for your baby. For some years now, it has been possible to give your child a little extra, by arranging at birth for the storage of the stem cells present in umbilical cord blood – with a view to possible subsequent use of those stem cells by the child itself.
The reason for this is that medical science has discovered that the human body has a unique form of ‘reserves’:
stem cells. Medicine is already using these stem cells in the treatment of a number of disorders. Your baby will soon be born with a large store of these reserves, from an organ that is almost always thrown away: the umbilical cord. There is therefore a unique opportunity to remove a large amount of very vital stem cells without great effort and which we can store for a long time. Your child can therefore in the near or distant future have access to highly vital stem cells of its own, which may then provide the key for a number of therapies.
Just to make things absolutely clear:
Cryo-Save does not provide therapy – this is provided by the doctor. You can however ensure that in the future, the doctor can access young, vital stem cells from the patient.
