YOU HAVE A CHOICE

A major argument is currently raging about whether cord blood stem cells should be stored in private banks for the sole use of the donor or at their discretion, or whether the sample should be donated to a public bank, where the sample would be available to everyone in need. With Cryo-Save you now have a choice*; saving the precious stem cells of your newborn child privately or enrolling them in our so-called Controlled Sharing Programme (CSP), a hybrid system of saving cord blood stem cells. In both situations you stay in control and keep ownership of the stored stem cells.
* Please check with one of our customer representatives

(+971 800 2796), if the CSP is available in your country already.

HELPING YOU AND OTHERS

Maybe you want to keep all options open and make your child’s umbilical cord stem cells available to other people in need. If so, we can offer you our Controlled Sharing Programme (CSP). Cryo-Save was the first private stem cell bank in Europe to offer such a programme. Back in January 2007, we entered into an agreement with a non-profit organisation (Ossidea) in Italy, to offer our clients a hybrid system of storing cord blood stem cells.

Under the CSP, the service fee is similar to a normal private storage, but at the signing of the contract, you will be asked to agree to make the sample available as in a public bank. This hybrid system enables the sample to be potentially available to the whole population. If the blood of the umbilical cord tested is

suitable for donation, we place it on an anonymous international stem cell registry. But it still remains the property of your child. If there is a request for a donation, you can still decide whether you really want to release it. If this is the case, you will, of course, get a full refund of the money paid to Cryo-Save, plus interest.

Currently, sample sizes are such that they are probably only big enough for one treatment. This will change in the near future as expansionary techniques improve. Combining personal use and donating a portion to someone in need may well become the future gold standard of cord blood banking.
